Since its launch in October 2025, staff and young people from Our Hearings, Our Voice have worked hard to spread awareness of our Seeing Beyond the Surface guide to professionals who have a supportive role in children and young people’s lives within the care sector.

Our Hearings, Our Voice Board member Ciara visited the SCRA offices in Glenrothes on Thursday 4 June, to meet with the Fife Children’s Hearings Improvement Partnership (CHIP).

Ciara skilfully and passionately shared key messages from the guide with CHIP members. The multi-agency audience came from a diverse range of organisations, including social work, police, education, safeguarders, advocacy, SCRA, CHS, and health.

The six themes within our guide – relationships, support, language, children’s potential, children’s information, and participation- were shared through voice clips, videos, artwork, and even a ‘Game of Life’ to help bring the voices and asks of children across Scotland to life.

Ciara’s engaging delivery style, warmth, and humour ensured the audience felt encouraged to share reflections and knowledge from their own practice. We were encouraged by their commitment to apply messages from the guide to improving children’s experiences of the Hearings System in Fife.

The guide is a comprehensive overview of the issues that matter most to children and young people across Scotland. Enhanced by artwork, poetry, and other creative expressions of lived experience, Seeing Beyond the Surface is an impactful, authentic, and accessible resource that can be used by anyone who is passionate about meeting the asks of children and young people across Scotland.
